Attorney Shay T. Allen
Every case begins with one objective: achieving the best possible outcome for our client. We approach each matter with a strategic, results-oriented mindset, focused on winning — whether through successful negotiation, persuasive motion practice, or aggressive advocacy at trial. No two cases are alike, so rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we analyze every case from multiple angles, identify opportunities others may overlook, and build creative legal strategies tailored to each client’s unique circumstances. That willingness to think differently, paired with thorough preparation and skilled advocacy, allows us to pursue innovative solutions while staying fully prepared to litigate whenever necessary.
Homegrown in Chicago
As a fourth-generation Chicagoan, I have deep roots in the community I serve and a strong understanding of the local courts, legal system, and the people who call this area home. My legal career began as a prosecutor, where I gained invaluable courtroom experience handling a wide variety of criminal cases — experience that gave me firsthand insight into how cases are investigated, evaluated, and prosecuted, which I now use to advocate effectively for my clients in private practice.
A Scientific Approach to Evidence
One of my greatest strengths is my analytical approach to complex legal issues. With a degree in biology and a strong scientific background, I’m able to understand and challenge the technical evidence that’s often central to modern litigation — DNA analysis, cell phone location data, digital evidence, forensic testing, and other scientific and technological issues. I enjoy breaking down complex evidence into clear, persuasive arguments that can make a meaningful difference in a case.
Courtroom Experience
Over the course of my career, I’ve handled more than 1,000 trials in both state and federal courts throughout Illinois. Having litigated cases across multiple counties and a wide range of practice areas, I bring extensive courtroom experience, strategic advocacy, and practical insight to every client I represent.
A Trusted Eye for Jury Selection
I’ve selected juries in more than 50 trials across state and federal criminal and civil cases. That experience has honed a skill I consider one of my strongest: identifying jurors who will be genuinely open to a client’s perspective. It’s a skill I now also share with fellow trial attorneys through jury consulting.
Giving Back to Chicago
Over the years, I’ve worked closely with the Cook County Bar Association, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, and churches across Chicago to bring pro bono legal services to the community — including expungement seminars, license reinstatement hearings, and pro bono representation in both state and federal court.
Practice Areas
Our practice areas include criminal defense, employment law, personal injury, civil rights litigation, and general civil litigation. We handle a broad range of criminal, civil, and employment matters — from misdemeanor and felony criminal defense (DUI, drug offenses, weapons charges, violent crimes, domestic battery, theft, fraud, and probation violations) to civil matters including personal injury claims, employment disputes (discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations), and civil rights cases. We also represent individuals and businesses across a range of civil litigation matters, including contract and business disputes and other complex legal claims.
